Involvement in the community thru Law Enforcement

The La Verne Police Department Reserve Officer Program has been in existence for over fifty years. The Reserve Forces Bureau was formed to supplement and assist the full-time sworn Police Officers of the La Verne Police Department.

The La Verne Police Department offers highly dedicated individuals the unique opportunity to become involved in law enforcement as a volunteer part-time police officer.

Applicants participate in the same selection process as a police officer, which includes a written examination, physical agility test, and oral interviews. If the applicant is chosen to continue in the process, a thorough background investigation is completed. If the applicant passes the background investigation, he/she will be required to pass a medical and psychological examination. The La Verne Police Department utilizes the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Academy to train their reserves. The academy is currently held part-time on Monday and Wednesday nights and all day on Sunday. Testing for new recruit reserve officers will be done in the Spring and Fall. Applicants will be notified of testing dates four weeks in advance.

The La Verne Police Department offers the Reserve Forces Bureau a unique opportunity to become involved with many functions of the department such as but not limited to; uniform patrol, bike patrol, warrant teams, probation search teams, DUI taskforce and checkpoints.
