The Investigation Bureau consists of detectives
and support staff who conduct follow-up investigation on criminal cases.
Detectives follow up on leads, interview witnesses, victims, suspects,
and prepare cases for presentation to the District Attorney’s
Office.
The Detective Bureau handles a wide variety
of investigations ranging from burglaries and credit card fraud to elder
abuse, kidnapping, and homicide. The Detectives spend many hours solving
crimes and prosecuting offenders. The Detectives also make themselves
available around the clock in order to provide expertise and take over
major investigations.
The Investigation Bureau is divided up into four categories that focus
on different types of crimes. The categories are Crime against Persons,
Crime against Property, Sex Crimes and Narcotics. Having Investigators
assigned to specific units enables them to gain valuable expertise in
their assigned area.
The Investigation Bureau consists of five Investigators, one Police
Clerk and one Evidence Technician. A Lieutenant and a Sergeant supervise
the Bureau.
The Investigation Bureau also provides additional Investigators to
federal and countywide Task Forces. One Investigator is assigned to

PROPERTY/EVIDENCE
The La Verne Police Department Property and Evidence Section catalogs
and tracks nearly every piece of property that comes into the custody
of La Verne Police Officers. We catalog finger print cards, stolen property,
guns taken as safekeeping, clothes, drugs, bicycles, and vehicles.
PROPERTY CLAIM
The Property and Evidence Section is governed by state law on all pieces
of property. In some cases property must be held the entire length of
a criminal or civil trial and may be held for the length of the possible
appeal period.
When the court has concluded the case, the Property and
Evidence Section mails out claim notices to the rightful owners of the
property. The notice is mailed to the address listed in the police reports.
If you receive a claim notice, your property is available for pick-up
at the police station.
LOST OR STOLEN BICYCLES
In order to view bicycles held by the Police Department, you must have
filed a lost or stolen bicycle report with the police.
FIREARMS
Proof of ownership is required on all weapons and must be registered
to the person claiming ownership of the weapon.
A valid picture identification and proof of ownership will be required
before any property is released. Please be sure to call for an appointment
to pick-up property.
POLICE AUCTIONS
All auctions for unclaimed property are conducted online at Stealitback.com.
What’s unique about this on-line service is that if a bidder presents
proof that an item being auctioned is rightfully their property, Stealitback.com
will return that item to its owner free of charge.
The partnership between the La Verne Police Department and Stealitback.com
is to help reduce the time, energy, and financial resources devoted
to the management of unclaimed property.
