CITIZENS' POLICE ACADEMY

The La Verne Police Department sponsors an 11- week Citizens' Police Academy each year. The Academy meets one night a week, usually Thursday nights, from 6:30 to 9 PM. The classes are conducted by members of the La Verne Police Department. The focus of the Academy is on the Police Department's operational procedures. The sessions range from administrative functions to undercover operations, as well as weapons safety and a trip to the department's shooting range.

The purpose of the program is to bridge a gap between the people we serve and the La Verne Police Department through education. Current issues and trends are brought to the citizens while having fun in the process. As Mayor Jon Blickenstaff has said numerous times, “the closer you look, the better we look.”

Class participants must be at least 18 years of age with no criminal convictions. Applicants must live or work in La Verne or attend the University of La Verne. A criminal history check will be conducted to verify information provided on the application.

If you are interested in attending the next Citizens’ Academy class, please contact the Crime Prevention Office at (909) 596-1913, or email: crimeprevention@lvpd.org.
